‘Obstetric Entitlement’ is a term used to encompass the various motives and conflicts of interest that drive obstetric violence. One ubiquitous aspect of obstetric entitlement is monetary: in many places, obstetricians are paid per delivery. This makes extracting a fetus before shift change a priority, which fosters resentment toward mothers who resist a doctor’s attempts to physically and sexually manipulate her to this end.
